Multiple-vehicle truck accidents often require forensic analysis

Texas has its share of serious accidents involving trucks. When a truck gets involved in a chain-reaction type of crash, the human carnage can carry a big toll. It is also difficult in some cases to apportion liability among the various participants in truck accidents that involve a chain-reaction scenario.

With modern comparative negligence laws, the degree or percentage of fault must often be attributed to each of the drivers in a multi-vehicle collision. Each chain reaction has its own configuration, making it impossible to classify or predict how such collisions will play out. In Robertson County, a deadly four-vehicle chain-reaction crash occurred on the southbound lanes of State Highway 6 at about 5:15 a.m. on June 7.

An 18-wheeler was heading up a hill and was struck in the rear by a car, per the Texas Department of Public Safety. A pickup truck then rear-ended the car. Authorities say that the rear-end impact sent the car into oncoming northbound traffic where a motorcycle struck it.

The 23-year-old male operator of the car died in the tragic mishap. The pickup and motorcycle operators were hospitalized, according to authorities. The first vehicle in the line of collisions was the car driver, who died. The car driver initiated the sequence of events, but would not possibly have veered into oncoming traffic if not rear-ended by the pickup driver.

The car negligently hit the rig but the pickup driver may be largely responsible for the car operator's death, which also then caused injuries to the apparently innocent motorcycle driver, who was faced with an emergency. The attribution and apportionment of responsibility in this complex mishap will require forensic accident experts to unravel the likely chain of causation. The liability arguments in intricate truck accidents may be complex, and will require the services of an experienced attorney who is adept at handling that type of major accident.
