Texas man dies after car accident with a street racer

| Oct 31, 2018 | Car Accidents |

The popularity of street racing has skyrocketed over recent years, and some television shows even glorify it and make it appear fun and lucrative. What is not stressed enough is just how dangerous a hobby like this can be. Far too many drivers have been killed in accidents involving street racing, and those deaths don’t just involve the racers, as innocent bystanders are often caught in the crossfire. That was the case this week when a Texas man lost his life in a car accident involving street racing.

In the early hours of a recent Sunday morning, two individuals were driving toward a friend’s house shortly after getting off work. As they turned at an intersection, their vehicle was suddenly struck by a speeding car. Initial investigations indicate the driver of the car had been racing with another vehicle prior to causing the crash.

The driver of the first vehicle was hospitalized for his injuries, while a 22-year-old passenger in his vehicle was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene. A woman, whose role in the crash remains unclear, was also transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Charges, including racing causing bodily injury and racing causing death, are reportedly pending against the driver who caused the collision.

Those who suffer serious injuries or lose a loved one in a car accident involving a negligent driver may wish to exercise their right to pursue restitution through civil court. Although this might not heal the damage that was done, a successfully litigated lawsuit could help ease some of the financial burdens the victims may encounter. An attorney can examine the accident and help a person in Texas pursue the full amount of compensation entitled through a claim against the party deemed at fault.
