Intersections in Texas cities are hazardous areas — especially for those riding motorcycles, bicycles or scooters. These vehicles offer no protection for the riders, and even if a rider wears a helmet, he or she could suffer catastrophic or fatal injuries if struck by a vehicle with a negligent driver. Such was the sad fate of a 42-year-old Dallas scooter rider on a recent Monday.
Authorities reported that a 42-year-old Dallas man entered an intersection in Richardson shortly before 5 p.m. Reportedly, the man was on a scooter, and he was heading south, crossing the intersection on a green light. At that time, an SUV driver, for whom the yellow light was flashing, allegedly turned west without yielding to the scooter rider.
The resulting collision saw the scooter crashing into the SUV. The man on the bike succumbed to his injuries at the crash scene. Police say the SUV driver suffered no injuries. The driver was the only occupant of the SUV, and there was no indication of possible charges that might be pending.
Losing a loved one is naturally traumatizing for any family, and if a negligent driver causes such a death, surviving family members may be overwhelmed by the unanticipated financial consequences. However, they could pursue recovery of damages through the Texas civil justice system. An experienced personal injury attorney can assist and provide the necessary support and guidance throughout the wrongful death lawsuit proceedings. A lawyer can help with establishing negligence and documenting losses for adjudication by the court. Claims can include financial losses such as end-of-life expenses and lost income, along with emotional damages like pain and suffering of the spouse and children.
